Details

Koû Koû, located at 41 Via Monte Pertica in Rome's Prati district, is a recently opened establishment from June 2024, offering a distinctive blend of Japanese washoku and French-style patisserie. The venue presents an informed yet relaxed atmosphere, characterised by pale-wood furniture, understated lighting, and an intimate layout reminiscent of a refined tea room. This unique pairing of authentic Japanese comfort food with the finesse of French pâtisserie sets Koû Koû apart in Rome's vibrant dining landscape, focusing on considered flavour and craftsmanship rather than a typical sushi buffet experience.

The culinary offerings at Koû Koû are a delightful exploration of Japanese washoku, featuring savoury comfort dishes such as tonkatsu, karaage, and seasonal shabu-shabu or sukiyaki. Complementing these are exquisite French-inspired pastries infused with Japanese ingredients, including yuzu-mousse éclairs, matcha cream puffs, and black-sesame Paris-Brests. Guests can also enjoy a selection of imported teas, herbal teas, sake, and specific hot beverages like filter coffee and matcha latte, with options for lighter lunch sets and more elaborate dinner menus.

This charming bistro caters wonderfully to those who appreciate a bold and innovative culinary approach, making it an ideal choice for lovers of both French treats and Japanese cuisine. Its small, cosy interior, echoing the aesthetic of tea rooms in Tokyo and Paris, provides an intimate setting perfect for a relaxing dinner or a pleasant sweet break during the day. Koû Koû is well-suited for individuals seeking a courteous and informal dining experience that moves beyond conventional offerings.

Went here for a solo lunch. The staff were so incredibly friendly and kind. Food was absolutely delicious. The strawberry dessert was probably one of the best desserts I had in Rome.

Highly recommend.

New restaurant with a unique concept of both Japanese food & French pastries. We loved all the dishes we had - it was nice to have a break from pasta during our visit to Italy.

They were in the process of changing over to their winter menu. The eggplant and buckwheat noodles dishes were daily specials. The tonkatsu was delicious and came with the traditional sesame grinder.

Paola’s pastries are incredible and change daily. We enjoyed the black sesame basque cheesecake and puff pastry. We might need to sneak by here for more pastries before we leave.

Service was very personable and friendly. Paola wrote a list of some of her favourite trattorias in the city for us to try before we leave.

Restaurant was a bit quiet when we visited. Could maybe use some background music.

If you are looking for an authentic Japanese dining experience in Rome, this is the place to go. After living in Tokyo for years I felt back there when we had the best tuna sashimi I found in Italy, a delicious salad with seabass sashimi and sesame dressing, and the juiciest Japanese fried chicken (kara age) you can think of.
Sparkling sake and green tea umeshu were a great match.
Paola’s desserts with matcha and fig were out of this world. Make sure you don’t leave without trying them.
Thanks Paola and Wataru for bringing a piece of Tokyo and France with you in Rome!
