Details

Sora Lalla, an esteemed Roman trattoria, offers a genuinely authentic dining experience on the picturesque Isola Tiberina, Rome's only island in the Tiber River. Founded in 1959 by Elena Fabrizi, known affectionately as "Sora Lella", the establishment continues its legacy through her grandchildren, ensuring traditional hospitality and flavours are preserved. The atmosphere here is warm, informal, and welcoming, evoking the comfortable feel of a traditional Roman home. This family-run institution stands out for its unwavering commitment to authentic Roman culinary heritage, avoiding modern interpretations in favour of time-honoured recipes and an enchanting historic setting within a tower.

The cuisine at this distinguished trattoria champions authentic Roman gastronomy, with dishes emphasising simplicity and the genuine flavours derived from high-quality, local, and seasonal ingredients. Diners can indulge in beloved Roman pasta dishes such as carbonara, amatriciana, and cacio e pepe, which are hand-crafted with meticulous care. Other notable specialities include Nonna Lella's traditional meatballs, Roman-style tripe, and oxtail stew. A curated wine list featuring regional Italian labels complements the meal perfectly, alongside unique offerings like the "Sora Lella Cocktail," a secret family recipe from 1970.

This restaurant is ideally suited for those seeking a true taste of Rome and its rich culinary traditions, appealing to both local residents and curious travellers. Its warm, family-run ambiance makes it a wonderful choice for intimate gatherings or a romantic evening, often highlighted by its slightly dimmer lighting. For anyone wishing to immerse themselves in genuine Roman hospitality and enjoy a leisurely meal, this establishment provides a memorable and unpretentious experience, though securing a reservation is highly recommended due to its popularity.

Surprisingly, good restaurant with ample outdoor seating in a pleasant Piazza. Very good pizza and nice selection of wine. What else do you want? Great for enjoying a leisurely meal and sipping wine while people watching.

Beautiful place where the kitchen is dedicated to Sora Lalla, it’s located in a kind of square, there are lots of mini-commerce stands, the price is perfect compared to what you eat. The service is very but very good. Ruben, the person who attended us is very friendly. You don’t need to pay for the cutlery and water.

Supplì with undercooked rice, carbonara overcooked, and pizza as hard as if it had been left in the oven too long. The wine was good. The service was friendly, but the kitchen does not perform well. It’s a shame that in such a great location the quality is not what you would expect. This is my first disappointment in Rome.

It's an Ok spot, still touristy. The Suppli was good not great, the meatballs were good, the beefsteak al Verde was just ok, the salmon didn't really have a taste to it, the patate al forno was really really great, the Pinot Grigio Laura was fantastic. Too many smokers outside, so be aware if you are a non smoker and want to sit outdoors.

Not the best eating experience in Rome. Slivers of fat, not cheek on Carbonara dish and served detached prawn heads-if necessary, a single head would have been enough.
As the evening went on, the venue became noticeably rowdy with local? youngsters. A pair of lads nursing a single drink between them sat at the table next to us, vape and cigarette smoking.
Venue very much reminded us of WeatherSpoons back in the UK.
If ‘the Spoons’ is your taste, enjoy here.
