My husband and I are honeymooning in Rome and wanted to have the most local experience when it came to cuisine. I found this place just walking around and the atmosphere immediately pulled me in. The lovely woman working the counter made us a delicious cappuccino and espresso for very affordable prices. Also got to pet their lovely dog, which is ALWAYS a bonus to me! Very good spot if you are looking for a quick coffee and snack to eat on your way to your next adventure!

This is a small, very natural Rome caffe. Extremely good value for money, the caffe is unpretentious in its slightly eccentric fading Gothic theme, but the coffee is great. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. They have a strong local clientele but are also understanding of foreign visitors. We had coffee here on three of the four mornings we stayed nearby and already by our second visit the lady owner remembered our order on our last visit. The croissants and pastries were good too. Places like this are to be treasured in the midst of the world stampede towards tourist-orientated offerings. Go there.

It’s a small cafe, very quaint like its name. Newspapers are actually available on the table👏👏👏. Breakfast pastries are varied. Cappuccino is ample, fresh brewed strong coffee.

Caffè Gotico is the opposite of curated Rome.

Tiny entrance on Via della Stelletta, peeling walls, crooked tiles, old wood, a chandelier that feels half medieval, half improvised. You walk in and it’s like stepping into someone’s stubborn, unchanged corner of the city. No rebranding, no concept design, no Instagram strategy. Just life.

The interior is simple and worn. Gothic arches painted with stars, green walls in the back room, heavy wooden bar, mismatched chairs, visible age everywhere. Hygiene? Let’s say it’s not a showroom. But somehow that’s part of the honesty. Nothing is pretending to be something else.

There’s no polished service choreography. They run it like they genuinely do not care about performance. And that’s refreshing. It operates during siesta, when half of Rome closes. You eat what they’re making. Maybe carbonara. Maybe amatriciana. Maybe something else. A few options at most. No theatrical menu presentation. It’s more like: this is what’s there.

The food is simple, almost aggressively simple. Like your aunt cooking fast on a Tuesday when everyone’s hungry. No plating tricks. No reinterpretation. Just pasta, sauce, done. And it works.

There’s even a dog casually walking out of the back room like he owns the place. Bowls on the floor. No apologies. Full spirit.

It’s super cheap, especially for this part of Rome. And it feels local in a way that many “authentic” places don’t anymore.

If you’re looking for refinement, go somewhere else. If you want a sincere, down-to-earth Roman pause with zero sugarcoating, this is it. I needed exactly this kind of place. And it delivered.

This is a true Italian local bar / caffè! If you find any tourists here, it’s because they are lost! Amazingly friendly staff with a cool vibe. Marcella was a pleasure to speak with and made a very nice cappuccino and ginseng. Also, very reasonably priced selection of food available for lunch. What I love best is that the bar owner cares about the work environment he provides and the hours of operation allows for him and the workers to have a life. RESPECT! ✊
