Details

Associazione Culturale Caucaso in Rome stands out as a unique cultural association and an ethnogastronomic hub, fostering a distinctly Slavic atmosphere. Guests enter via a ramp leading to the basement of a building, where they discover an interior with an elegant aesthetic reminiscent of an old aunt's house, featuring mirrored walls set against pink Venetian stucco and heavy-framed paintings. This welcoming establishment, previously known as "Matrioska", functions as a melting pot for Ukrainian, Russian, Armenian, Moldovan, Georgian, and Belarusian communities, all coexisting and enjoying themselves in a sympathetic atmosphere.

The cuisine offers a delightful journey through Eastern European flavours, encompassing Russian, Ukrainian, Moldovan, Armenian, and Georgian dishes. Diners can savour tasty dumplings, such as pelmeni, and hearty borsch, alongside frequently praised dishes like ajara khachapuri and shuba salad. Sweet crepes and baklava are also prepared for dessert. To complement the meal, a selection of beverages includes Georgian wine, often likened to Chianti, as well as Ukrainian vodka and Moldovan and Armenian wines. A dining highlight includes an amuse-bouche of vodka served with rye bread, cucumber, and butter.

This restaurant is particularly well-suited for those keen to explore the strong and distinctive flavours of Eastern European fare, offering a setting perfect for a quiet visit, a full meal, and a comfortable seated dining experience. Its role as a community gathering point makes it ideal for celebrating special occasions; a private room with dynamic lighting is available for birthday parties, where Eastern European music encourages dancing on Saturday evenings and Sunday lunchtimes. With its friendly staff and reasonable prices, it offers an authentic and memorable global culinary experience in Rome.

We really loved this restaurant! They welcomed us with a shot of vodka, dark bread and cucumber before the meal, which was a lovely surprise. The service was excellent and the food was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere felt warm and cozy and we really enjoyed the beautiful interior and the Slavic music playing in the background. We had a great time and would definitely come back 😍

A very cosy and nice restaurant with mixed cuisine : Russian/ Ucranian/ Giorgian and Armenian. The owner is very kind and ready to help and explains every dish, the quality is very high and fresh, they use the ingredients that are very typical for the cuisine and the flavour of dishes is very authentic! There is a big variety of dishes : fish, meat, vegetables, side dishes; that’s why also vegetarians can find smth to eat! It’s very close to the metro B line San Paolo, so just some minutes walk.
I really recommend it! The quality and price is very good!
