Il Tamburello di Pulcinella offers a truly charming and inviting atmosphere, providing a warm welcome reminiscent of a visit to a friend's home. This family-run trattoria, nestled in a quiet residential neighbourhood of Rome, stands out for its authentic feel and cosy space filled with personality. The restaurant is often praised for being away from typical tourist areas, allowing guests to enjoy a genuine local experience.
The cuisine style focuses on delicious homemade Italian dishes, with a particular highlight being the "Tamburello," the restaurant's namesake specialty. This unique baked stew, served in a terracotta dish and covered with pizza dough, can be enjoyed in varieties such as the "Sole Mio" with broccoli rabe and sausage. Other notable dishes include fritto misto, ravioli con pere, octopus risotto, and gnocchi with cod, olives, and capers in a rich red sauce. Patrons frequently rave about the excellent food, describing it as prepared with love and of high quality.
This delightful eatery is particularly well-suited for families, couples, and anyone seeking an authentic Roman dining experience in a friendly, relaxed setting. It works wonderfully for pleasant evenings out, where the attentive and gracious service from staff, including the charming twin brothers who run the establishment, ensures a memorable meal. Given its popularity among locals and its intimate size, securing a reservation in advance is highly recommended.

The Tamburello, the restaurant's namesake and specialty, is a baked stew in a terra-cotta dish and covered with pizza dough. We had the Tamburello "Sole Mio", a stew of broccoli rabe and sausage. We also tried the gnocchi with cod, olives, capers in a red sauce. It was delicious and full of flavor. We finished our meal with a chocolate almond torte. Each dish was authentic and well executed. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
