This was one of my favourite meals during our trip. The pasta was delicious! We got the pesto pasta and the matriciana. They were flavourful, perfectly cooked, and a good serving size! The staff were friendly and took the time to explain the menu and specials!

Based on reviews, we bookmarked al42 as a place we wanted to go for lunch during our stay in Rome. Because it is small, we completely missed it as we walked by. However once we found it, it was packed with people - every seat was taken. One of the kind workers who was greeting people asked us to stand near a stool across from the restaurant and we would be seated as soon as seats were available. After 10 minutes we were asked to come in and the menu and ordering process was explained to us. We placed our order at the counter and were seated. Once our number was called, we collected our food and enjoyed our lunch. We had the gnocchi special and carbonara which were both delicious. I have to say this was the highest quality meal we had in Rome. We tried to go a second time but unfortunately they were closed. We would highly recommend al42 if you are looking for a delicious, high quality meal in a warm, friendly environment.

This was some of the absolute best pasta we had during our two weeks in Italy! In fact it was so good it was the only restaurant that we ate at twice. I would highly recommend the matricana as this might have been the single greatest dish of pasta I enjoyed while in Italy. The lasagna was also phenomenal. And for dessert the tiramisu was the best out of the 11 we tried during our trip.
There was a bit of a line outside but it moved quickly and the wait was more than worth it. Service could not have been more friendly and the whole experience was truly memorable.

If you’re looking for genuine Italian food that feels both comforting and elegant, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommended for anyone who loves authentic Italian flavors and outstanding service.The tiramisu was the perfect ending to an amazing Italian meal. It was beautifully layered, light, and incredibly flavorful. The balance of rich mascarpone cream, delicate coffee-soaked sponge, and a hint of cocoa created a dessert that was both indulgent and refreshing.

Every bite melted in the mouth, tasting fresh and authentically homemade. It wasn’t overly sweet, which made the flavors stand out even more. Easily one of the best tiramisus I’ve had absolutely unforgettable and highly recommended. It’s rare to find Italian food that delivers such genuine flavor while still feeling comforting and satisfying to an Indian palate.Definitely a place I would happily visit again and recommend to others.

The five of us had lunch here because my older brother had visited before and said the food was delicious, so he decided to treat us to a meal here during this rare family trip. We certainly weren’t disappointed. Upon arrival, the staff politely gave us a brief introduction to the menu and mentioned that the carbonara would indeed be on the salty side due to the cheese. Since my brother had highly recommended it, we ordered one, along with two other different pasta dishes.
First off, I have to admit that the carbonara was indeed quite salty, but it was truly delicious and had a very rich flavor—though, if it weren’t salty, it wouldn’t be carbonara.
Next up was the porcini mushroom fettuccine—and that was the highlight! Surprisingly, our whole family agreed it was the best dish! It looked simple but tasted amazing! The last dish was the shrimp tagliolini. My brother, Dad, and I all ordered this one. Maybe it’s because we’d already eaten so much pasta during our week in Italy that we were feeling a bit sick of it lol, so we wanted something lighter—and this was definitely a great choice. All in all, the three pasta dishes we chose were all excellent—great flavor and fantastic texture. I think I’m going to really miss this pasta once I get back to Hong Kong, hahaha🤣🤪
