Details

UMA Roma offers a truly distinctive dining experience in Rome, presenting a pleasant and refined atmosphere defined by its pared-back design. Most tables thoughtfully overlook the open kitchen, allowing guests to observe the culinary team at work, adding an engaging dimension to the meal. This establishment stands out with its innovative concept, placing three talented chefs at the core of the experience, and the decor, including handcrafted plates, is carefully chosen to provoke curiosity and reflection. The minimalist setting, featuring a long counter and a striking contrast between bright pink walls and wood, contributes to its international feel.

The cuisine style at UMA Roma is contemporary and modern, centred around an inventive approach where a single ingredient often becomes the absolute protagonist, explored through various sophisticated techniques. Diners can choose from a thoughtful à la carte menu or one of two distinct tasting menus: one entirely plant-based and another incorporating animal proteins. Notable dishes highlight a culinary philosophy rooted in grilling and fermentation, with creations such as the "Airbag alla Carbonara" or "Steamed Bun stuffed with oxtail" as inventive amuse-bouches.

This restaurant is particularly well-suited for those in search of creative cooking with excellent value for money. It caters to individuals who appreciate modern, technique-driven dishes and a dining experience designed to encourage discovery. UMA Roma provides an ideal setting for special occasions, or for anyone keen to explore an innovative gastronomic proposal that subtly references tradition while embracing contemporary culinary artistry.

Our meal at UMA Roma was wonderful. To create a multi-flavoured and textured dish from one simple ingredient is nothing short of mastery. Every dish followed the previous perfectly and just got better with each course. Ending with the star of the show - a kind of semi gel-like sweet prosecco mouthful that literally evaporated in the mouth. Amazing. The wine pairing was spot on and well worth the adventure.

Service was excellent and at a good pace. The decor and environment was peaceful, understated and in perfect harmony with the food. Great value too!

Highly recommended.

A good, if odd experience. Service by Jenny was great, but the coursing got heavily thrown off at some point. I couldn't tell if we threw them off (my wife eats at a leisurely pace), but that shouldn't be too much of a problem for a place like this. I suspect there was a problem behind the counter, as I saw the main chef and sous chef have a silent spat.

In any case, the food was excellent, if not always imaginative (more Koji cured potato; excellent, but uninspired).

Wine pairings were mostly on point though.

Stick with the 8 course.

If we could give this six stars we would. It was the best dining experience we had in four weeks in Italy. Beautiful, delicious food prepared with attention and an obvious respect for the locally sourced ingredients. The staff were friendly in a low key way and attentive without being intrusive. The atmosphere was perfect, with an impeccable dining area designed for quiet, intimate dining. Everything was just perfect! If you’re travelling to Rome and want something more than pasta and pizza, and appreciate fine food, this must be top of your list.

My recent evening at UMA in Rome was truly unforgettable.

From the very first moment you step inside, you notice the details. Instead of the usual black jackets and formal restaurant uniforms, the entire team welcomes you dressed in coordinated white attire. It immediately creates a feeling of precision, purity, and professionalism. The open kitchen allows you to see the chefs preparing every dish right in front of you, and this transforms the experience entirely. You are not simply a guest sitting at a table — you feel as if you are part of the process, part of the culture of food being created in real time.

What impressed me even more was the incredible attention to personal details. My boyfriend had contacted the restaurant in advance, and the team prepared a wonderful surprise for me for 8 March. They arranged beautiful flowers, prepared a personalised menu, and ensured that every drink and detail of the evening was perfectly organised. The level of care and thoughtfulness from the team was truly exceptional.

As someone who regularly visits Michelin-starred restaurants in Rome, I can confidently say that UMA stands among the very best. I know the restaurant is currently recognised by the Michelin Guide, but in my opinion the quality of both the cuisine and the service already deserves no less than two Michelin stars.

Every single dish was outstanding. What I appreciated most was the balance of flavours — nothing was overly salty or overly sweet. This is particularly important to me because I am very sensitive to sugar and salt in food, and here everything felt perfectly calibrated. Each plate was elegant, refined, and incredibly satisfying.

UMA is clearly a restaurant with a remarkable future ahead. I sincerely wish the entire team continued success and growth. I have no doubt that one day we will see UMA reach the level of three Michelin stars.

A truly extraordinary experience in Rome.

I only have superlatives for UMA Roma, an unassuming restaurant in an unassuming neighborhood of Rome. After reading reviews, we made reservations for lunch and taxied to UMA from our rental in Prati. UMA was well worth the expense and the journey.

From the moment we strolled into the well-executed space, I was convinced the two friends who own and operate UMA must have a cadre of wealthy investors. I learned I was wrong, and the gestalt of UMA was these two compadres. I was amazed by the design of UMA, which combines the warmth of repurposed wood doors with the cool of magenta. Everything was created to help diners enjoy the cooking.

Service was warm and engaging, and the two women answered my battery of questions with panache. We ordered the larger set menu. Each dish exploded with creativity and deliciousness. "How did you do that?" was blurted out after every taste. All the ingredients were in harmony, and the layering of flavors had a clear path.

UMA had the confidence of a Michelin-starred restaurant that knew how good it was. Why UMA lacks a star is beyond this diner's comprehension. We had a wonderful lunch at UMA, and on our next trip to Rome, we will make a reservation for dinner.
