We experienced both the Aurelia Antica tasting menu (a creative twist on Roman classics) and the Vindimayrix Starpath (chef’s choice menu).
Food: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
Overall, the Aurelia Antica menu was more cohesive and impressive compared to the Starpath.
Fish cappellacci was the standout dish. The pasta was beautifully al dente, filled with umami-rich fish, and complemented by a blend of fresh and cooked tomato juice that perfectly held the sauce together and balanced the flavors.
Veal with herbs and orange jam was another memorable dish that showcased the chef’s ambition. The sweetness of the orange jam paired thoughtfully with the veal, contributing to a layered flavor profile combining sweet, umami, creamy, bitter, and textural notes. However, the use of full herbs—left whole and generously applied—overpowered the balance of the dish. While the bitterness added intended complexity, its intensity lingered too long and masked the more delicate elements. Finely chopping the herbs or using them more sparingly could have allowed the dish to reach its full potential.
The dry-aged fish was delicious, showcasing deep, concentrated flavor. A final touch of fleur de sel would have elevated the dish by drawing out its full complexity and highlighting its natural depth.
Wine:
While I’m not a wine connoisseur, I found myself enjoying the whites far more than the reds. A notable highlight was the Elena Brut to start—bright, crisp, and a refreshing opener to the meal.
Service: ★★★★½☆ (4.5/5)
Despite a busier-than-usual evening, the service was attentive, professional, and well-paced. The staff managed the room efficiently without making it feel rushed or neglected.
Atmosphere: ★★★★★ (5/5)
The interior is beautifully designed—spacious and elegant, with a thoughtful nod to Roman architecture infused with modern aesthetics. The decor supports the restaurant’s identity and enhances the overall dining experience.
Overall Impression:
This restaurant shows great potential. With additional refinement—particularly in flavor balancing and herb application—it could absolutely earn a Michelin star in the near future. I’m looking forward to returning and seeing how the chef’s vision continues to evolve.
I was quite surprised that it was so cheap, considering the quality of food and wine. I will definitely be going back again - five stars!
The servers were very friendly and welcoming. Mario who was our main server suggested all the pairing wines with our dishes, and they were fabulous match!
We would love to have been listening to more like slow or quiet Jazz or light classical music instead of country western while we were dining, thus the four stars for atmosphere.
Fine dining or dinner for an occasion with reasonable price.
